The Quiet Power of Self-Trust
Are You Listening to Your Soul's Whispers?
Hey cosmic wanderer,
As we walk together along The Untrodden Path, I want to invite us all into a space where we explore what it truly means to trust ourselves and follow the quiet call of our inner wisdom. Today, I want to talk about self-trust.
Self-trust is the quiet foundation beneath the choices we make each day—the small decisions that add up over time and shape the course of our lives. When we talk about trust, it's easy to think of it in terms of others—trusting people or situations—but what about trusting ourselves? What does it mean to deeply believe in your own inner wisdom and to follow your inner compass, even when external noise or uncertainty makes you doubt?
When we dig a little deeper, we can see that the roots of the word "self" come from Old English, meaning "one's own person," and "trust" from Old Norse, meaning "confidence" or "protection." So together, self-trust becomes about feeling that inner confidence to protect and guide yourself—no matter what external circumstances arise. And this has definitely been the vibe with this New Moon in Libra that also coincides with a Solar Eclipse.
I won’t go into details here as there are astrologers out there who have done a wonderful job talking about this specific New Moon Solar Eclipse so make sure to check out Jennifer Racioppi, Jeff Hinshaw, and Verena Borell, to name a few.
In reality, how many of us truly listen to that inner wisdom? Where does self-trust show up for you—and where does it waver? How does your body feel when you're in alignment with your inner wisdom? Can you recall a moment when you truly trusted yourself?
Dove Dale, September 2014, in hindsight, the seeds of my own self-trust journey were sown that year.
Reflecting on My Own Journey with Self-Trust
For me, self-trust has been an evolving journey, one that I continue to uncover layer by layer. One of the most profound ways this trust has manifested in my life is through breathwork. Just yesterday, as I walked back from my library job through the heart of Leicester, I found myself reflecting on this journey.
With the cardinal Libra wind playing in my hair and the sun casting its warm, golden beams upon my face, I couldn’t help but embrace the freshness of that moment. It was as if the wind was gently sweeping away the old parts of me, fragments that no longer serve my growth.
As a Libra baby, this time of year always feels charged with possibility—like the universe is offering a sacred reset. But this year, something feels different. The air carries a deeper sense of renewal, an invitation to trust in the unfolding and release what’s been weighing on my spirit. The beauty of this season, much like self-trust, lies in its ability to let go of what no longer aligns while making space for new beginnings. And discovering breathwork was definitely a whole new beginning.
I had been curious about breathwork for a while, as it had been suggested to me several times, but it wasn't until a particularly tough day at work that I finally answered the call. That day, I was desperate for something to ground me, to help me reconnect to myself. I started small, listening to free breathwork practices on Spotify. And so the seed was planted.
Curiosity has a way of growing, right? Soon, I found myself wanting to experience breathwork in person. In March 2023, I signed up for a local Spring Equinox workshop. We practiced a two-part breathwork that was unknown to me at the time. And let me tell you… that experience blew me away.
Here’s a song from that Spring Equinox workshop that has stayed with me:
I was enthralled—my body, my mind, my soul—it all came alive in a way I hadn't felt before. That session lit a fire in me like nothing else, and it was in that moment I knew I needed to go deeper. I needed to learn more. I wanted to be able to share the powerful medicine of our own breath with others like me. I wanted other sensitive souls to feel the true power they carry within and to have the courage to claim it.
But self-trust, as I've learned, also requires patience. At the time, I was attending Britten LaRue's workshop for emerging readers, and I knew I couldn't take on something as big as breathwork facilitator training. I had to trust in the cosmic timing, knowing that the universe would present the right opportunity when I was ready.
That opportunity came exactly when I was ready. In the summer of 2023, I embarked on my breathwork facilitator journey.
The Lessons of Yes and No
Life has a funny way of teaching us about trust. After completing my breathwork training, another opportunity came up—one that seemed big and exciting, but… something didn't feel right. Despite its magnitude, I said no. I didn’t know why I was saying no but it felt significant. As it turned out, it led me to something else I had been waiting for: a Human Design analyst training.
This time, there was no hesitation. When the training was announced, I knew without a doubt that it was a yes. That deep inner trust—knowing when to leap and when to pause—has been one of the biggest lessons I've learned. Have you ever experienced a moment where, despite all the noise, you felt that deep, quiet knowing? That, my dear wanderer, is the power of self-trust in action.
It all started with that initial curiosity around breathwork, the decision to explore it further, and the trust in myself to follow that calling, even when the mind chatter was loud: "Can I commit to something this big?" "Is this the right path?" “What if it’s another one of those things on the long list of things I’ll never use again?”
But when I quieted my mind, the answer was clear. This was my journey. Breathwork and Human Design have since become the two key modalities of my sacred work, guiding me back to my true self in ways I never imagined and helping my fellow wanderers do the same.
An Invitation to Reflect
So today, I want to invite you to pause and reflect:
Where is self-trust illuminating your path right now? In which areas of your life do you feel disconnected from your inner compass? What small, sacred choices can you make today that honor your soul's journey?
Self-trust doesn't always come as a bold decision. Sometimes, it's a gentle nudge, an inner whisper. But when we listen—truly listen—it guides us to where we're meant to be. If you'd like, take a moment today to jot down one decision you made recently that came from a place of deep inner knowing. What did that feel like for you?
Just as the stars and planets follow their celestial paths without question, we too have an inner guidance system. Our challenge is to tune into it amidst the noise of daily life. As Lao Tzu said, so do I believe that:
"At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want."
Take This with You
Before you go, I invite you to try this simple exercise: Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. Now, recall a time when you deeply trusted yourself. How did your body feel? What sensations arise as you remember this moment?
Carry this feeling with you today as a reminder of your innate wisdom.
If it feels right, I'd love to hear where self-trust shows up (or doesn't) in your own life. Reply to this email, and let's start a conversation.
In the coming weeks, we'll be exploring different aspects of self-trust and how it intertwines with breathwork and Human Design. I'm excited to delve deeper into these topics with you. In the meantime, if you have any questions you’d like me to explore in my upcoming letters, I’d love to receive them!
I’ll see you back here next week!
Sending you a deep and nourishing breath,
Silvia
