🧭The Compass Within - #3 Learning to Trust Your Inner Guidance

Welcome to part 3 of the 3-part series! It's time to cultivate your unique embodied wisdom in your decision-making process.

How often do you pause and feel the quiet power of your own inner knowing?

There’s something magical about those moments when you choose to trust yourself, even if it feels like a small act. It’s in these seemingly tiny choices—deciding what feels right for you, tuning into your body’s signals—that the seeds of self-trust begin to grow. And while doubt may still make an appearance, it's not the focus here. Instead, we’re here to celebrate the possibilities our deep-rooted self-trust holds.

This journey of self-trust is what excites me most about Human Design. No matter how far I’ve explored this system, I always come back to three foundational elements: Type, Strategy, and Authority. They are the cornerstones of building a life aligned with who you truly are.

Now, imagine a life where your decisions feel easy and natural, guided by a deep, intuitive sense of what’s right for you. Picture yourself moving with confidence, nurturing that seedling of self-trust with each choice you make. This is where the real power lies—in the small, everyday moments when you listen to your body and follow its guidance.

Our Inner Authority is that compass, that quiet wisdom within us, ready to guide us when we tune in. By embracing this as a practice, we strengthen our ability to navigate choices with a sense of ease and confidence, rooted in our true selves.

So today, I invite you to take a moment and listen—what is your body telling you? What choices, big or small, can you make today that feel aligned with your deepest knowing? Trust that every time you follow this inner guidance, you’re building a foundation of self-trust that will carry you through all of life’s decisions.

Welcome back to the third and final part of our email series on the foundational elements of your Human Design bodygraph. So far, we’ve covered your Type and your Strategy and today, it’s all about your inner authority. But before we begin, if you haven’t already, make sure you get your Human Design chart to follow along.

Let’s dive in!

What is Inner Authority?

As already mentioned, in the language of Human Design, Inner Authority is your unique decision-making process, guiding you toward choices that align with your true self. It’s your inner compass—an embodied wisdom that helps you navigate life’s decisions from a place of truth rather than mental chatter. By tuning into your Inner Authority, you can make decisions that feel aligned and resonate deeply with your essence, leading to a more harmonious flow in life.

Here’s a basic overview of each Inner Authority, with practical steps, reflection prompts, and daily mantras to help you start experimenting.

Sacral Authority

Overview: Your gut response is your inner guide. It’s all about tuning into the simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ feeling that naturally arises when you’re presented with choices. This sacral response is your body’s way of steering you toward what truly aligns.

Actionable Step: Throughout the day, try tuning into your sacral response by noticing how your body reacts to small choices: from what to eat and drink to what you want to wear or even what podcast to listen to while you’re commuting or doing some housework. Practicing this with small, everyday choices helps you get familiar with recognizing that natural response, building trust in your gut’s guidance.

Daily Reflection: How does it feel when I listen to my gut? What happens when I act on my sacral response versus when I ignore it?

Daily Mantra: "I trust the wisdom of my body to guide me toward what lights me up."

Emotional Authority

Overview: The main point to take away is this: emotional authority is not designed to decide in the moment. Emotional clarity doesn’t come right away—it unfolds gradually. Let yourself experience the highs and lows of your feelings about a choice, and once the wave settles, you’ll have a clearer sense of what feels right, especially with big life decisions.

Actionable Step: In your daily life, practice waiting on emotional clarity on smaller choices such as making a new purchase or starting something new. Observe how your excitement or hesitation changes over time. This can help you start building trust in the process. With big life decisions, give yourself space to feel all your emotions before making a choice. Again, notice how you feel at the high points and low points, then wait for a sense of calm before deciding. Journaling how your emotions shift can also help you recognize when clarity has arrived.

Daily Reflection: What shifts in my feelings when I wait before deciding? How do different points in the wave affect my clarity?

Daily Mantra: "I honour my emotional flow and trust that clarity emerges in its own time."

Splenic Authority

Overview: Your intuition speaks in nudges, whispers and body sensations. It’s sudden, subtle and gone before you can intellectually make sense of it. And that is not the point. For you, it’s all about trusting the immediate knowing that arises in that moment for it is your Spleen’s way of keeping you safe and healthy.

Actionable Step: To tune into this, pay attention to how you feel when you’re faced with choices. Notice those immediate feelings or impressions without overthinking them. Trusting these subtle messages can lead you toward what feels right for you.

Daily Reflection: What is my intuitive voice trying to tell me? When do I notice these intuitive nudges?

Daily Mantra: "I trust the quiet voice within that knows what’s best for me in the moment."

Ego Authority

Overview: Your decisions are fueled by your willpower and what truly inspires you. It’s important to focus on what you genuinely want, rather than what you think you 'should' do. When you follow your desires and interests, you tap into a deeper motivation that propels you forward. Trust your inner drive and let it guide you toward what feels fulfilling and authentic for you.

Actionable Step: To put this into action, take a moment to reflect on what truly excites you. Write down a few activities, projects, or goals that spark joy and interest in you. Then, choose one small step to move toward that desire—whether it’s signing up for a class, reaching out to someone who inspires you, or simply setting aside time to explore that interest. By taking this small step, you’ll begin to align your actions with your true desires, making it easier to follow your intuition and make decisions that resonate with your authentic self.

Daily Reflection: What do I feel drawn to pursue? How does my energy shift when I act out of desire rather than obligation?

Daily Mantra: "I honor my desires and let them guide my choices."

Self-Projected Authority

Overview: For you, it’s about finding clarity through your own voice. It’s less about thinking it through and more about speaking your thoughts aloud, allowing your truth to emerge as you hear yourself speak. Pay attention to what feels authentic and resonates deeply as you talk things out—this is where your inner knowing reveals itself.

Actionable Step: Talk through your decisions with a trusted person who can simply hold space for you, without giving advice or input. As you speak, notice what feels true and authentic in your own voice. The clarity will naturally emerge as you hear your thoughts aloud.

Daily Reflection: What insights emerge when I speak my thoughts aloud? What truths come through in my voice?

Daily Mantra: "My voice reveals my truth."

Mental Authority

aka Outer/Environmental Authority

Overview: For you, finding clarity is all about the right environment. Your insights and decisions are shaped by the spaces you’re in and the people you surround yourself with. When you’re in a place that feels good and aligned, your thoughts become clearer, and your intuition sharpens. It’s not about an immediate gut feeling but about using your keen mind to process your thoughts in environments that bring out your best.

Actionable Step: Change up your surroundings when making decisions. Reflect on your options in different environments—notice how each space shifts your thoughts and feelings. This helps you tap into the clarity that emerges when you’re in a place that feels right for you.

Daily Reflection: How do different spaces influence my clarity? Which places make me feel more aligned?

Daily Mantra: "I find my truth in environments that reflect my energy."

Lunar Authority

Overview: Your clarity takes time, unfolding gradually over a 28-day lunar cycle. Each phase of the moon offers new insights, helping you see different angles of your decision before reaching clarity.

Actionable Step: Track how you feel during various moon phases and observe patterns over the month. It can be as simple as pausing for a minute each night and writing down one word to sum up the day. Do this long enough, and you will start to notice patterns.

Daily Reflection: What insights surface at different points in the lunar cycle? How do these shifts affect my clarity?

Daily Mantra: "I trust the flow of the moon to guide my decision-making process."

Experimenting with your Inner Authority is more than just an exercise—it’s an invitation to reconnect with the deep wisdom that lives within you. Each choice, big or small, is an opportunity to trust your body’s signals, and with every moment of alignment, you deepen your connection to your truth.

Sending you a deep and nourishing breath,

Silvia
